Toccoa, GA- Joseph Harry Winters, 96, died Monday, May 21, 2012. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 2:00PM at Bradley Baptist Church, Bradley, Georgia. The Reverend Steve Johnson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Toccoa, 475 Tugalo Street, Toccoa, Georgia, where Mr. Winters was an active member for more than seventy years. Mr. Winters, born December 22, 1915 in Bradley, Georgia, was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Winters and the late Sallie Lou Slocumb Winters. He graduated from Jones County High School in 1932 and from Mercer University in 1938, majoring in mathematics. In 1942, he received a diploma in Higher Accounting from LaSalle Extension University. Mr. Winters began working with LeTourneau Company of Georgia in Toccoa in September 1940 and remained with the company and its successors until his retirement in 1982. He achieved the position of plant controller in 1955 and held that position until his retirement. Mr. Winters is survived by his wife, Rubye Devereux Winters; sister, Emily Winters Greene; sisters-in-law, Mary Evelyn Devereux and Rosa Devereux Garret and numerous nieces and nephews.
