Macon-John William Smith, 78, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Forsyth Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Rick Elrod officiating. Visitation will be Friday, December 17, 2010 between 6:00-8:00PM at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Being an entrepreneur, in 1977 Mr. Smith established Salvare & Associates. In 1989, he opened Macon Discount Building Materials, a retail closeout building material company where his two sons run the business today. Mr. Smith served in the United States Army, serving two years in Panama. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Eva Beasley Smith, his wife, Nina Patricia Smith; and his sister, Pat Smith. Survivors include his daughter, Nina Stephanie Smith of Atlanta; two sons, Michael Stephen Smith of Macon and Scott Thomas Smith of Forsyth; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and brother, Howard Slye Smith of Kennesaw, GA.
