John Nolan McGarity, D.D.S. of Macon, Georgia passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014. He was a resident of Carlyle Place. Nolan was born on November 11, 1921 in Royston, Georgia to the late John Otto and Cordie Mae McGarity. He was a graduate of the Emory University School of Dentistry, class of 1951, after completing his pre-dental studies at the University of Georgia. Nolan was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Aircorp, 8th Airforce. He practiced dentistry for 3 years at the Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia before establishing a private practice in Fort Valley, Georgia where he practiced for more than 30 years. Nolan served in the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, Central District Dental Society, Psi Omega Fraternity, boards of the Methodist church, Chamber of Commerce, American Camellia Society, and Pine Needles Country Club. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Memorial Services will be held Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 2PM, at the Fort Valley United Methodist Church with a reception immediately following in the fellowship hall of the church. There will be a private burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Eleanor L. McGarity, daughters Jan Christian (Tom) of Beavercreek, Ohio, formerly of Warner Robins, Georgia, Pam Doughty (John) of Vero Beach, Florida, two grandchildren, Ellen Long (Roy) of Milton, Georgia and Thomas Christian III of Boston, Massachusetts and one great grandchild, Emily Claire Long.
