John Robert "J.R." Harris, Jr.

Macon- John R. "J.R." Harris, Jr., 88, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009 at home surrounded by his family. Services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola with the Reverends Perry Porter and William F. Harris officiating. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at the Cupola. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Masonic Home of Georgia, 1417 Nottingham Drive, Macon, GA 31211.

Mr. Harris, born on July 23, 1921 in Crawford County, GA, graduated from Crawford County High School. He was the son of the late John R. Harris, Sr. and the late Lucile Ross Harris and was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Harris. He served in the Army Air Corps and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Harris was an automotive mechanic retired from Blue Bird Body Company after thirty-three years of service. He was a member of Lizella Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He was a member and past master of the Crawford Masonic Lodge #689 and past patron of Lizella Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #390.

Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Clara Ward Harris; son, Christopher Harris of Atlanta; granddaughter, Jeanette Chandell Johnson (Paul) of Douglasville, GA; great-granddaughters, Haley and Lauren Johnson; siblings, William F. Harris of Culloden; Charlie F. Harris (Betty) and Russell Harris (Evelyn), both of Musella, GA, and Hinton Harris (Allene) of Macon; Doris Almgren of Lithonia, GA, Joyce Hortman of Macon, Nancy Sneathen (Carl) of Atlanta, and Ann Gillespie (Charles) of Athens, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
