John Wendell Howell, 76, passed away Tuesday, February 09, 2016. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverends Chip Miller and John Kinser officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with the Reverend Tab Howell, his nephew, performing the graveside service. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the downstairs Fellowship Hall at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideon's International Macon East Camp, PO Box 5718, Macon, Georgia 31208. Mr. Howell was the son of the late John E. Howell and Ruth Anderson Howell. He was born in Lyons, Georgia but lived in Macon nearly all of his life. He was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church serving as a Sunday School teacher and deacon for many years. Mr. Howell was a member and past president of the Gideon's International, East Macon Camp, a member of the Optimist Club, and Masonic Lodge #255. He was an Eagle Scout, Troop Number 5, Macon, Georgia. Mr. Howell was a 1957 honor graduate of Lanier High School, a graduate of Mercer University and the Walter F. George School of Law. He served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He recently retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Joy Whitaker Howell of Macon; three children, Wendy Howell Dale (Mike) of Macon, W. Kerry Howell (Paige) of Macon, and John Michael Howell (Jessica) of Naples, Florida; seven grandchildren, Bobby Brown, Cutter Brown, John Kerry Howell, Jane Howell, Bo Howell, John Wheeler Howell, and Stone Wendell Howell; two brothers, Kenneth D. Howell (Diane) of Albany, Georgia, and Terry D. Howell of Macon; sister-in-law, Wanda Whitaker Fitzgerald (Scott) of Macon; and brother-in-law John Merwyn Whitaker (Ann) of Huntsville, Alabama.
