The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon will follow the service.
John was born in Savannah, Georgia in 1942, and graduated from Grove High School in Savannah in 1960. In his early years, John worked with his brother, Ted, at Harrelson Electrical Company out of Charleston, South Carolina, and as a very young man he worked at a drive-in movie theater.
John retired as a Conductor with Norfolk Southern after 41 years in 2002. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Gordon, Georgia and proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard Reserve.
John was quite the handyman. He could take apart and put anything back together. He built TVs, placed hardwood floors, and repaired cars. If it was broke, he could fix it. Some of his hobbies were collecting knives and coins, and he loved classic cars. Never one to sit idle, John was always doing something around the house. He and his wife, Cheryl, enjoyed trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and he liked to frequent yard sales and restore antiques. John liked playing solitaire and hated losing at a game of Words with Friends to his daughter, Danielle.
Johnny was always witty and sweet and always ready to help his neighbors. Family was always most important to him.
