Dr. John F. Gibson passed away March 25, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, March 30, 2018 at Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia with Dr. Richard Kremer and Dr. Neal Wall officiating. Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00PM Thursday, March 29, at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia, as well as, immediately following the funeral service at the church Friday. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dr. Gibson's name to John Gibson Servant Leadership Fund, NOBTS, 3939 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans, LA, 70126 or CFCGA, The Macon Touchdown Club Educational Foundation, Inc. Fund, 577 Mulberry Street, Suite 1600, Macon, GA 31201. Dr. John F. Gibson, a resident of Macon, Georgia since 1967, is the son of the late Dr. T. Baron Gibson and Mrs. Gibson of Canton, Georgia. His father served as pastor of the First Baptist Churches of Canton, Valdosta, and Jasper, Georgia. Dr. Gibson is a graduate of Valdosta High School, Wake Forest College and holds the Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Theology and Doctor of Theology degrees from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served pastorates in Mississippi and Louisiana before returning to Georgia where he was a minister at First Baptist, Cordele, for 6 years; Wesleyan Drive Church in Macon for 17 years, and Crestview Church, Warner Robins, from 1984 until his retirement in 1990. He is the author of Isaac Taylor Tichenor: Southern Baptist Statesman, "Gospel Missionism", included in the Encyclopedia of Southern Baptists, and has written for state Baptist papers. He served as a member of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention from 1969-1975 and is a past moderator of the Macon Baptist Association. A veteran of World War II, Dr. Gibson is a member of the American Legion and Kappa Sigma fraternity. An avid quail hunter and football enthusiast, the minister played the sport at Valdosta High School and Wake Forest. He is a past president and director of the Macon Touchdown Club. In 1985, he was elected to the Valdosta-Lowndes County Athletic Hall of Fame. Dr. Gibson was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Ray Gibson, son, Dr. John F. Gibson, Jr. and brother, T. Baron Gibson, Jr. Dr. Gibson is survived by daughter, Mary Gay Pittman (Joseph B.) of Hazel Green, Alabama and son, T. Baron Gibson, II (Susie), a practicing attorney in Macon; eleven grandchildren, Robert J. Pittman (Amy), SSgt. John Douglas Pittman (Megan), Katherine E. Pittman, Margaret June Pittman, Mary Frances Pittman, Carolyn E. Gibson, John F. Gibson, III (Emily), T. Baron Gibson, III, Kent Taylor Gibson, Susie S. Gibson, and Sadie C. Gibson; three great-grandchildren, Madi Carden, Emma Grace Pittman, and Rachel M. Pittman; brother, Robert J. Gibson (Jane); sister, Mary G. Boyle; daughter-in-law, Christie R.
