John "Jack" Francis Rogers, Jr., 88, of Macon, passed away January 24, 2018. Services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 3:00PM at Christ Episcopal Church with Reverend Cynthia Knapp officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Cloister Room. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 582 Walnut Street, Macon, GA 31201 or The Bell Tower Endowment at The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, 520 Main Street, Highlands, NC 28741, or the charity of the donor's choice. Mr. Rogers was born March 7, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His parents were the late Florence Henderson Rogers and John F. Rogers, Sr. After graduating from high school in Cincinnati, he attended Georgia Tech, where he majored in Industrial Management and graduated cum laude in 1951. While at Tech, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was on the swim team. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Korean War and was awarded the Silver Star for leadership and bravery in combat. After serving in Korea, he was the General's Aide on an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean. After his time in the Marine Corps, he was employed with Proctor and Gamble, Sinclair Refining Company, and then Southern Life Insurance Company. In 1960, Mr. Rogers founded the Rogers Oil Company. From a single retail gas station, Rogers Oil Company diversified into wholesale gasoline sales, convenience stores, and car washes. In 1982, he sold the gasoline stations and car washes to Conoco. Mr. Rogers served on the bank boards of Family Federal Savings and Loan Association, Georgia Bank and Trust Company, Foundation Board of Georgia Tech, The Sea Island Club, and The Idle Hour Country Club. He also served on Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning Commission. Other affiliations included, the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman for United Way of Central Georgia, and The Georgia Oilmen's Association. Mr. Rogers was a past member of Capital City Club Atlanta, University Club of New York, and Ocean Forest Sea Island. For 40 years, he was a member of a golf group, The Diamond Cup. The group was composed of 12 friends, who played golf every Saturday and took annual trips to golf resorts. Mr. Rogers was also a member of the Idle Hour Golf and Country Club in Macon and Highlands Country Club, Highlands, North Carolina. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and a seasonal member of Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, Highlands, North Carolina. Mr. Rogers is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Laura Bush Rogers; children, John Francis Rogers, III (Noreen) of Marblehead, Massachusetts, Fabia Rogers Butler (Geoff) of Mill Valley, California and Reg T. Rogers (Suzanne) of Macon; two step daughters, Elizabeth Logan James of Atlanta and Jeanie Logan Haselden (Brooks) of Greenville, South Carolina; and grandchildren, Lindsay Rogers Gonnella, John F. Rogers, IV, Natalie Raines Butler, Bradford Elliott Butler, Reese Charleton Butler, Matthew Trice Rogers, Alex James, Betsy James, Ford Haselden and Parker Haselden.
