John W. "Billy" Meeks

John W. "Billy" Meeks, 85, passed away on February 4, 2014. A celebration of his life will be held at Shurlington United Methodist Church at 12:00PM on Friday, February 7, 2014 with Dr. Bill Neely officiating. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall. Family may be contacted at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31210. Billy was a lifelong resident of Macon. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was the owner of Shurlington Barber Shop until his retirement. He was a charter member of the Shurlington United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Supt for many years. He loved athletics and rarely missed his children's and grandchildren's sports events. Billy was never at a loss for a good joke or a funny anecdote to raise one's spirits. His laugh was contagious. He will always be remembered as a caring and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Billy is survived by his wife, Cora Lee Rider Meeks; his daughters, Debs Roberts (John), and Sis Blum (Buck); his sons, Bill Meeks (June), and Bayne Meeks (Kim); ten grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
