Joan Etheridge Cone passed away November 25, 2015, at Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, GA, at age 78. A memorial service will be planned for a date in January near her home in Marietta. Mrs. Cone's body was donated to Mercer University School of Medicine, as was her wish. Mrs. Cone was born in Macon on May 15, 1937, to the late Willie Otis Etheridge and Gladys Hewitt Etheridge. A 1955 graduate of Miller High School in Macon, she resided in Macon and nearby Forsyth, GA, nearly all her life. Over the years she worked in the public school system at Pearl Stephens Elementary School and as secretary/librarian at Georgia Learning Resources System. She was always appreciated, loved and respected by her coworkers and supervisors. For the past two years, Mrs. Cone resided in Marietta with her daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and David O'Hare, and nine-year-old grandson Jonathan, as she persevered through her illness. She was at home until less than two weeks before her passing. Mrs. Cone loved reading, gardening, and spending time with her grandson. Mrs. Cone is survived by her husband of 59 years, William Lewis Cone, who resides nearby where she could visit him. She also is survived by two children, her son-in-law, her grandson, her beloved sister June Turner, and extended family. Per Mrs. Cone's request, donations in her memory may be sent to the Roswell United Methodist Church (RUMC) Foundation, 814 Mimosa Blvd., Roswell, GA, 30075, for the children's programs enjoyed by her grandson. RUMC also was very supportive of Mrs. Cone and her family during her illness and passing. Please contact Kelley O'Hare at [email protected] for service information.
