Jimmy Leon McCallum, 80, of Macon, Georgia, left us for his heavenly home on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Shouting from the highest mountain, he was a great husband, dad, grandfather, uncle, brother, friend, and most especially, a child of God.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 26, 2025, in the Chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola, with Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00am prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
Son of the late Virgil Dever McCallum, Sr. and Catherine Mae Hightower McCallum, Jimmy was born in Macon on June 19, 1945. He devoted 27 years of service as a firefighter, ultimately retiring as a captain with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department. His bravery and commitment to helping others ensured the safety of countless members in his community, earning him profound respect and admiration.
A man of deep faith, Jimmy was a member of Midway Baptist Church and also attended Ingleside Baptist Church. He loved working outdoors, riding his tractor, and tending to his garden. More than anything, Jimmy loved spending time with family and his wonderful sense of humor brought laughter and light into the lives of those around him.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Janet Mullis McCallum of Forsyth; children: Hope Leatherwood (Cliff) of Woodstock, Georgia, Melissa Mullis of Inman, South Carolina, and Wesley Mullis (Lena) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Bryce McCallum Leatherwood of Nashville, Tennessee, Lance Stokes Leatherwood of Woodstock, Georgia, Lauren Wertman (Dillon) of Marietta, Pennsylvania, Anna Brook Mullis of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Megan Elaine Mullis of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and David Mullis of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; siblings: Cathy Jones (Richard), Brenda Veronee (Larry), Linda Malone (Steve), and Preston McCallum (Susan); and a host of nieces and nephews.
