Jewel Hardy Edwards, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, the 15th of December 2014, in Macon, Georgia. A long-time resident of Decatur, Mississippi, Jewel was born in 1924 at House, Mississippi as one of eight siblings. After East Central Jr. College and the University of Southern Mississippi Jewel taught elementary school and later owned Edward's Department Store with her husband, Mack, for many years. A resourceful mother of two, wife and friend, she gardened, sewed stylish aprons and quilts and shared the Gospel of Christ all the way to the end of her life. "Moms" found tremendous joy being near her great-grandbabies and sharing her sweet tooth with them. Jewel is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Mack Edwards; one daughter, Nancy Harrell; and one granddaughter, Lydia Tripp. Survivors: One daughter, Jacquelyn Smith and her husband, Ron of Macon, Georgia Three grandchildren: Kris Harrell of Pearl, Mississippi; Allison Tripp and husband, Jason of Macon, Georgia; Jeffrey Smith and wife, Laura of Navarre Beach, Florida; Seven Great Grandchildren Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19th at 2:00pm and the funeral at 3:00pm, both at Clarke-Venable Baptist Church in Decatur, MS. Burial will be immediately afterwards at Decatur Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to her beloved church, Clarke-Venable Baptist Church, 362 W Broad St, Decatur, MS 39327.
