Jeff was a native of Middleburgh, New York. He was born on June 15,1941 to the late David B. Alford and Alice Lynes Alford. In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Alford Doerge.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 64 years, Pamela French Alford, and their three children – Michael Alford (Tricia) of Macon, Kim West of Macon, and Chris Alford (Jennifer) of Warner Robins; eight grandchildren: Cassie Grissom (Jeff), Hunter West (Alexandra), Taylor Alford (Nicole), Megan Terrebrood (Henry), Brianna Miller (Peter), Jessica Mason (Jonathan), Logan Ford (Earl), and Maddie Alford as well as 12 great-grandchildren. Jeff also leaves behind his stepbrothers Richard Alford (Jannene) of Montgomery, Illinois, and Frank, also known as Skip Alford (Janet) of Fort Plains, New York. He is also survived by many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
After graduating with a degree in Political Science from Wake Forest University, Jeff moved to Warner Robins where he worked at Robins Air Force Base from 1962-1984. Jeff married Pamela French of West Hyannisport, MA in September of 1962. Following their move to Georgia, Jeff and Pam joined Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins and gave their lives to the Lord.
This began the most important journey of Jeff’s life. All who knew him could tell you of his great love for Jesus and his heavenly father. He began almost every day of the last six decades of his life in prayer and reading his Bible.
Jeff believed that God was calling him into the ministry and he began taking seminary courses while still working at Robins Air Force Base. He served as the associate pastor of Sandy Valley Baptist Church, and then as the pastor of Garrison Baptist Church. In 1984 Jeff and Pam moved to Milledgeville where he became the founding pastor of Covenant Baptist Church.
He spent the last 19 years of his career as a prison chaplain, which he often said was the most rewarding job that he ever had. Some of his closest friends were ex-inmates.
Jeff retired at the age of 79, and he and Pam moved to Macon to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He was a member of Northway Church where he and Pam served faithfully in the church’s Celebrate Recovery ministry.
Jesus said in Matthew 22:36-40 that the two greatest commandments are to love God and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. If you knew Jeff, you know that he happily lived by these commands. Even during his last days in the hospital, he was reading his Bible, praying with others and inviting nurses to church.
We will greatly miss him, but we are so happy for Jeff to be completely healed and with Jesus where he has heard the words “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
