Jeffie Sue Carter Dixon

Jeffie Sue Carter Dixon, 89, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Ingleside Baptist Church, with Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating. A reception will be held for family and friends following the service in the fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Storehouse Ministry at Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.

Daughter of the late James Samuel Carter and Lizzie Belle Youmans Carter, Sue was born on July 29, 1934, in Vidalia, Georgia, and was one of twelve children.

Sue was a beloved character in her community, known for her vibrancy and zest for life. She labored tirelessly in the service of others, exemplified by her lengthy career in the retail industry. Initially working as a salesperson for Singer Sewing Machines, she also brought creativity into Cloth World where she taught classes on many sewing techniques. She worked in Mortgage Banking, real estate, and BellSouth for many years before serving as a dedicated store manager for 20 years at the esteemed Dr. Pena Peck House Women's Exchange in St. Augustine. Possessing an unswerving faith, Sue was an active and cherished member of Ingleside Baptist Church. She extended her dedication to the church by regularly participating in the Bowman Crowley Sunday School Class and selflessly contributing her time to the blanket and bulletin ministries. She also had a correspondence ministry sending out cards for birthdays, weddings, funerals, get wells and thank yous.  Her devotion to her spiritual life was evident to all who knew her. Her artistic talents were multiple. She loved using her proficient skills as a seamstress to bring happiness to her family by personally crafting outfits for them. An accomplished soprano, she delighted in using her rich voice not only to uplift her church congregation but also to add joy to family gatherings.  Sue enjoyed baking and was always looking for an excuse to cook for friends, neighbors, and church friends.

Sue leaves behind a loving family who cherish her memory. She is survived by her three daughters, Mona Kate Dixon Savage of Macon, Gloria Dixon of Macon, and Andrea Sue Gregg (Spencer) of Neptune Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Tisha Marie Savage of Nashville, Tennessee, Tanner Alan Gregg (Paige) of Julington Creek, Florida, and Taylor James Gregg (Meghan) of Neptune Beach, Florida; great grandchildren, Davis, Maddox, and one on the way; two brothers, Kenneth Moultrie Carter (Lavonia) and Harry Franklin Carter (Patricia), both of Cordele, Georgia; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Lucille Duncan of Cordele, Georgia, Ernestine Dixon Langford of Brunswick, Georgia, and Elinor Dixon Carter of Waycross, Georgia.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Allen Dixon; and infant daughter, Laura Dixon. Her deceased siblings are Lawrence Carter (Jesse), Carl Carter (Mary Mac), Roy Carter, Eloise Carter Dees (Nathan), James Carter, Jr. (Grace), Raymond Carter (Bobbie & Betty), Sarah Carter Flanders (Clay), Mayme Joel Carter Williams (Percy), and R. Jack Carter.
