Sister, mother, auntie, proud Nana, and devoted colleague, Jeanne had a quiet spirit which shone brightly through her adorable, dimpled smile. A strong, resilient woman, she bravely faced her health challenges with grit and grace; her humor was never very far away. Jeanne was a woman of a deep Catholic faith with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and the ways and words of saints Francis and Clare of Assisi
Jeanne was graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and received a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Georgia College and State University, Milledgeville.
Jeanne’s love of books and children led to her vocation for early childhood education — especially teaching youngsters how to read. She was a kindergarten teacher for 30 years at McKibbin Lane Elementary, Macon, then taught first grade at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, Macon. Jeanne’s passion for teaching led to mentoring new teachers and engaging in lifelong learning through travel, music, and creative arts including, knitting, macrame, needlepoint, even quilt-making.
Jeanne will be remembered by her children Ben (Robyn) Schoch and daughter Megan (Josh) McGraw, grandchildren Powell, Smith, and Benjamin, her sisters Lauren (Duren) Wilson, Mary Maureen (Kevin) Smith, and Peg (Rob) McGonigal, nephew and nieces, their spouses and children, as well as other family, friends, and former students.
