Jeanette A. Sorkness, 89, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 1, 2010, at her home. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road followed by services in the chapel at Hart's at the Cupola at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Dr. Jay Harris will be officiating.
Mrs. Sorkness was born September 16, 1920 in Finley, ND to the late Clarence and Minnie Archer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul John Sorkness and son, Paul A. Sorkness. She graduated from college in 1942 at North Dakota Agricultural College - now known as North Dakota State University and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority where she was honored as the runner-up homecoming queen. Mrs. Sorkness relocated to Macon over forty years ago and co-owned and operated the Sheraton Inn with her husband and family. She was a homemaker and known as an excellent cook. She was looking forward to her annual trip in June to Big Cormorant Lake, Minnesota at her family's lakefront cottage where she enjoyed visits with her family members. Survivors are her children, Richard Sorkness of San Antonio, TX, Randy Sorkness(Denise Caldon) of Macon, GA and Susan Sorkness of Forest Ranch, CA; daughter-in-law, Carol Sorkness of Kearney, NE; six grandchildren including John Sorkness and Sara Sorkness, Jeff Sorkness (Kim) of Mesa, AZ, Brian Sorkness and James Sorkness of Chattanooga, TN, and Whitney Sorkness of Macon, GA; and two great grandchildren.
