Macon- Jean Tolbert Lyndon, 80, died August 13 after a short illness. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Hart's at the Cupola with the Reverend Harriette Simmons officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Cupola.
Mrs. Lyndon, the daughter of the late Julian Stone Tolbert and Dorothy Hudson Tolbert, was born in Atlanta, Georgia. Her father worked for Western Electric during the Depression and she attended more than a dozen grammar schools throughout the south before her family's final move, to Macon, in 1942. Mrs. Lyndon graduated from Miller High School for Girls and from Wesleyan College, magna cum laude.
Mrs. Lyndon was a skilled gardener and decorator as well as a voracious reader and gourmet cook. She enjoyed traveling, especially to New York City and the beaches of Georgia. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, the Idle Hour Golf and Country Club, and The Sewing Club. She had recently retired from her job in the Genealogical and Historical Room of the Washington Memorial Library, where she had worked for nearly thirty years.
Mrs. Lyndon was preceded in death by her husband, Righton Lyndon, and her brother, Julian Hudson Tolbert. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Lyndon Peck, her son-in-law, Darryl Peck, and her grandchildren, Caroline Miller Peck, Martha Lyndon Peck, and Alice Jackson Peck, all of Watkinsville; as well as a sister-in-law, Helen Ross Tolbert of Atlanta; five nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.
