Jean Macdonell Logan

Macon- Jean MacDonell Logan, widow of Harold S. Logan, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Services will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 11:00AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Hal Weidman officiating. Burial will be private at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family may be contacted at 126 Idle Hour Drive, the residence of Jack and Laura Rogers. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Museum of Arts and Sciences, 4182 Forsyth Road, Macon, Georgia 31210 or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 753 College Street, Macon, Georgia 31201. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staffs of Harrington House and Hospice of Central Georgia for their loving and faithful care extended to Mrs. Logan. Mrs. Logan, daughter of the late Alan M. and Laura T. MacDonell, was born in Savannah, Georgia on October 5, 1918. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia Henry W. Grady School of Journalism where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and Theta Sigma Phi Honorary journalism fraternity. Mrs. Logan worked at the Macon Telegraph and News as a columnist during her high school years and as Women's Editor of the Macon News during World War II and later, as a reporter. Mrs. Logan was first married to Major Ralph Bradner Tilt of Demarest, New Jersey, who was stationed at Camp Wheeler during World War II. He was killed in action in Burma, serving there for two and one-half years with General Joseph W. Stillwell and Chinese troops. She later married Dr. Holloway Bush of McKinney, Texas, who had been in India and Burma with Major Tilt. After the war, Dr. Bush practiced internal medicine in Macon for twenty-eight years. Following Dr. Bush's death in 1971, Mrs. Bush returned to the newspaper and again worked as a reporter and feature writer. In 1973, she married Harold S. Logan of Boston, Massachusetts, who had come to Macon as vice president of development of Mercer University. Mrs. Logan was an active member of Junior League of Macon and served on the original Fine Arts Committee of the Museum of Arts and Sciences. She was a member of Macon Writer's Club and a former member of Idle Hour Country Club. She was a past president of the Women's Auxiliary at St. Paul's Church where she was a lifelong member. Mrs. Logan is survived by her children, Laura Bush Rogers and her husband, John F. Rogers, Jr., of Macon and Walter H. Bush and his wife, Sherie, of Atlanta; former daughter-in-law, Ellen Love Bush; two stepchildren, George M. Logan and Gail E. Logan, both of Macon; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Logan James and her husband, Kannon, of Atlanta, Jeanie Logan Haselden and her husband, Brooks, of Greenville, South Carolina, Mary Ellen Bush of Asheville, North Carolina and Ann Bush Odom and her husband, Jeremy, of Asheville, North Carolina; three step-grandchildren, Christopher G. Logan, Mary Kate Logan and Kelly Shortridge; three great-grandchildren, Alex James, Betsy James and Ford Haselden. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
