Janice Irene Hambright Brown, beloved wife, mother, and “Marmie”, of Macon, Georgia went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 10, 2026.
Jan was born on May 30,1944 in Decatur, Georgia to the late William Bates Hambright, Sr. and the late Irene Chesnutt Hambright. She graduated from Decatur High School and the University of Georgia where she majored in Special Education. Jan married Larry A. Brown in 1967 and devoted her adult life to her husband, daughters, and grandchildren. Jan loved children and they loved her. She was a substitute teacher at Stratford Academy and Winship Elementary. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Macon where she taught 5th and 6th grade girls’ Sunday School and played the banjo for Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Covenant Sunday School class and attended many Bible studies. Jan was also active in the community as a member of the Morning Music Club, the Macon History Club, and as a volunteer server for the Macon Rotary Club.
In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her brother, William Bates Hambright, Jr. in 2012. She is survived by her husband, Larry A. Brown of Macon; her daughters Wendy Brown Sherlock (Joel) of Forsyth, GA; Bonnie Brown Leicht (Bruce) of Macon; Julie Brown Nelson (Stewart) of Greer, SC; and her grandchildren Sophia Irene Leicht of Sevierville, TN; Rabun Bates Leicht (Sarah Grace) of Macon; Eliza Rose Leicht of Atlanta, GA; Stewart Carson Nelson, Jr. and Caroline Elizabeth Nelson both of Greer, SC.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 2:00 in the afternoon. Visitation will be held immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 682 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201.
