Jane Harrell Winston

Jane Harrell Winston, 86, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Carlyle Place in the Grand Ballroom.

Daughter of the late Robert Harrell and Lloyd Hudson Harrell, Jane was born in Bloomington, Indiana on November 25, 1939. She earned her master’s degree from Fort Valley State University and spent many years teaching as a professor at Mercer University. Teaching was not simply her profession, but her calling, and even later in life she taught English classes at Carlyle Place. 

Theater also held a special place in Jane’s heart, and she approached both education and the arts with deep passion and enthusiasm. Her love of learning inspired countless students, colleagues, and friends throughout her life. 

As the wife of a United States Air Force serviceman, Jane embraced a life of adventure and service. She also found great happiness spending summers on Mackinac Island, a place she treasured throughout her life. 

Jane will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jeff Winston (Mendi) of Warner Robins, Georgia; daughter, Jamie Stanzione (Paul) of Decatur, Illinois; grandchildren: Zach Winston (Kendahl), Courtney Winston, Keeley Winston, Logan Bird (Tucker), Morgan Ringel (Devin), and Gavin Stanzione (Megan); great grandchildren: Emerson, Tyler, Wrenley, Grant, and Dollia; brother, Skip Harrell (Kaybeth); and sister-in-law, Ginny Hollenback. 

In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Colonel John Thomas Winston, USAF Retired.
