Jana Summers Daughtry passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024 at Pine Point Hospice Care, having held cancer at bay for three years. She was, during that time and at her passing, surrounded by her loving husband, Robert “Jeff” Daughtry, and her family. Jana was known by all to be a gentle, loving wife, sister, daughter, friend and devoted “Sity” to Brooklyn and Madalyn, daughters of Kevin (son) and Dana Summers.
Jana was born in Macon to Barbara Union Smith and the late Marvin “Buck” Smith. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Jeff Daughtry; son, Kevin Summers (Dana); stepsons, Tyler and Austin Daughtry; brother Stuart Smith (Kelli); sister, Tonya Williams (Alan); and her precious granddaughters, Brooklyn and Madalyn Summers. She graduated from Mount DeSales High School in 1976 and retired from Georgia Farm Bureau after 30 years of service.
She cherished her roles of mother and grandmother and was passionate in caring for and nurturing others. No request was beyond her, and we all felt special and valued in her presence.
Hers is a tremendous loss in the Smith, Daughtry & Williams families. Her close friends, Traci and Mark “Gino” Gianfrancesco of Athens, provided tremendous support during her illness and will miss her long companionship. Jana’s many friends from Macon, Gray, and the Georgia Farm Bureau mourn her passing and will miss the joy she brought to their lives.
Jana endured her illness with dignity and a calm that touched and taught us all. She exuded kindness towards others and a joyful spirit that impacted all in her circle. She lived a life that was captured by St.
Francis of Assisi in his beautiful prayer:
Lord, make us instruments of your peace
Where there is hatred, let us sow Love
Where there is injury, Pardon
Where there is discord, Union
Where there is doubt, Faith
Where there is despair, Hope
Where there is darkness, Light
Where there is sadness, Joy
Of God, grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to Console
To be understood as to Understand
To be loved as to Love
It is in giving, that we receive
It is in forgiving, that we are forgiven
It is in dying, that we hope for eternal life
