James Gasoway Watwood

Macon-James Gasoway Watwood, 78, died Monday, November 22, 2010. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Northminster Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. C. Jarred Hammet, Jr. officiating. The family will greet friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service. The family may be reached at the residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Wimbish Road, Macon, GA 31210. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Mr. Watwood was stationed at Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina. He received a Civil Engineering degree from Auburn University where he was a member of Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Societies. He worked for Central of Georgia and Southern Railroad for ten years and worked for the Bibb Company for 24 years where he retired as plant manager at Plant Camellia. In retirement, he enjoyed tree farming and spending time at the lake with his family. Mr. Watwood was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a Trustee, Deacon, Elder and longtime member of the Building and Grounds Committee. Survivors include his wife, Lyra Watwood of Macon; daughter, Maribeth Watwood and her husband Stefan Sommer of Flagstaff, AZ; son, Joe Watwood and his wife Rhonda of Macon; four grandsons, James, Joseph, Linden and Robin; and brother, Vernon Watwood and his wife Patricia of Houghton, MI.
