James Russell Tinkey A Job Well Done. A Good and Faithful Servant. James Russell Tinkey, the patriarch of the extended Tinkey Family, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by songs, prayers and storytelling with his family at his side. Over the course of this past week as family and friends gathered to celebrate him and his 96 years, many characteristics were lovingly compiled and shared with one another. We share the following recurring threads - Faith, Family, Integrity, Humility, Quiet Leadership and Service, Persistence, Love, Patriotism, Thoroughness, Charity, Wit, Love of the Woods, and most importantly, he was a Treasure to all. He was a selfless leader, servant and steward in church, community, work, politics, armed services and family through First Presbyterian Church in Eufaula, Alabama, First Presbyterian Church in Macon, Georgia, First Presbyterian Day School, The Oaks at Peake Assisted Living Facility, Gideons and United States Army. He grew up in the photography business with his Dad, including owning and operating a photography studio at age 18 and applied this trade during World War II and as a traveling salesman for Eastman Kodak. He served in the 161st Signal Photo Company of the United States Army in the Pacific Theater where he served with distinction. He transitioned in occupation from photography to forestry, and in geographical location from the Midwest region of the country to Eufaula, Alabama and then finally to Macon, Georgia in 1959. He entered the family timberland business in 1950 and continued it on his own from 1975 until his passing. This is a business legacy that will be continued by his three sons as Tinkey Timberlands. Jim was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. He was the son of the late Huron C. Tinkey and Myrtle P. Tinkey. He was married to Julia Peake Tinkey who predeceased him in 1999. He was blessed for many years with the companionship of his dear friend and sister-in-love, the late Ann Peake. Survivors include sons, daughters-in-love, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Michael and Carole Tinkey and their sons James (Adrian) Tinkey, Rutledge Baker, Wilson (Caroline) Baker and children Wilson and Elle; David and Stephanie Tinkey and their children, Grace, Faith and Christian; and John and Mary Tinkey and their children, Lauren, Julia and Jack. He loved and was well loved by nephews, nieces and all of his extended family.
