James Earl Thornton

James Earl Thornton passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 2:00PM at Christ Church. The Reverend Cynthia Knapp will be officiating with burial following at Riverside Cemetery. The family may be contacted at the residence. Mr. Thornton was predeceased by his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Margaret Anne Thornton Gruentzig and Dr. Andreas Roland Gruentzig; parents, Huie Allen Thornton and Harry Gardner Thornton, and brother, Harry Allen Thornton. He graduated from Darlington School and earned a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1952. He was general manager of the finishing division of the Bibb Company where he worked for forty-four years. He was a member of Christ Church where he served as Senior Warden and was a member of the Vestry. Mr. Thornton is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mary Jane Thornton of Macon, and sister-in-law, Martha Anne Ware (Nicholas) of Sheffield, Alabama. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
