James Allen Stokes

Funeral services for James Allen (Jimmy) Stokes, 72, will be Wednesday, 17 June 2009 at ten by the clock in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street, with burial following at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens on Houston Road, the Rev'd. Fr. Paul Gerlock, pastor of Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, Warner Robins, officiating. The family will receive friends at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street from six to eight by the clock on Tuesday evening, 16 June 2009 and may be contacted at the home of Mrs. Stokes Lowe, 3412 Hartley Bridge Road. Mr. Stokes died Saturday evening, 13 June 2009 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Byron, Georgia on 19 October 1936 and reared in Macon and Skipperton. His parents were the late James Allen Stokes and his wife, the former Miss Annie Belle Jackson. After Mr. Stokes was graduated from Lanier High School for Boys in 1956, he served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve. He was a master plumber and retired owner of Stokes Plumbing Company, Macon. He also had worked with David Perry Plumbing Company, Gray; West Plumbing Company, Warner Robins; and Stone Plumbing Company, Macon. Survivors include his wife of fifty years, the former Miss Sarah Eleanor Knowles, his sons Christopher Daniel Stokes and Carlos Mannheim Stokes of Skipperton and Paul Allen Stokes of Lizella, his daughter Katherine (Mrs. R. Jefferson) Waller of Winder, his sister Sandra (Mrs. Stokes) Lowe of Skipperton, his aunt, Ella Holt (Mrs. William Hester) Stokes of Jacksonville, Florida, his cousins William Eugene Stokes of East Palatka, Florida, Anne Stokes (Mrs. A. L.) Carson of Eatonton, Elizabeth Stokes (Mrs. Malcolm) Grace of Macon, Joan Jackson (Mrs. Dean) Brown of Fayetteville, and Robert Stokes of Jacksonville, Florida, twelve grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Maurice Stokes and his grandson, Joseph Tilden Stokes. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Genealogical and Historical Room of Washington Memorial Library, 1180 Washington Avenue, Macon, GA 31201-1790 or the charity of one's choice.
