Macon- James Ross "Jimmie" Fogarty, 88, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at 11:00AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Justin Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The Rosary is scheduled for Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at 5:00PM, in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street. The family will greet friends following the Rosary. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations in Mr. Fogarty's memory be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 930 Poplar Street, Macon, GA 31201 or to the donor's favorite charity. A World War II veteran, Staff Sergeant Fogarty was a tail gunner in B-17 "Flying Fortress" aircraft as a member of the United States Army Air Corps 452 Bomber Group, 728th Bomber Squadron. His military service is recognized at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum by the following: Mr. Fogarty was shot down three times while flying combat missions over Europe. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A lifelong Macon resident, Mr. Fogarty was a retired electrician with Starr Electric Company. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was an usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Fogarty was the son of the late Nicholas J. and Annie McCrary Fogarty. He was married to the late Louise Sams Fogarty. Mr. Fogarty was predeceased by his brother, Nicholas Fogarty. Survivors: Sister, Dorothy Fogarty Kelley of Macon; Nephew, Chris (Nancy) Kelley of Macon; Niece, Kelli (Dustin) Naughton of Atlanta, GA; Niece, Kathy (Jim) Gillespie of Green Cove Springs, FL; Nephew, Randy (Brenda) Sams of Lizella, GA; Niece, Ellen S. (Bill) Davis of Hopkinton, NH; Nephew, Wayne (Ruth) Sams of Newborn, GA; Donald Sams of Covington, GA; Niece, Patricia S. Powell of Charlottesville, VA and sister-in-law, Mrs. Hugh (Ollie) Sams of Covington, GA. He is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
