James Mcgee “Mack” Stokes

James McGee “Mack” Stokes, 81, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Hart’s at the Cupola, with the Reverend Benjamin Newberry officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.   Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.

Mack was born in Byron, Georgia on November 17, 1943, to the late Emmett Young Stokes and Alice Jewell McGee Stokes. He graduated from A.R. Willingham High School and later made his career as a successful sales representative for various architectural millwork companies. After retirement, he took a part-time job that he loved, which was ACE Hardware on Riverside Drive.

A devout Christian, Mack was a member of Rock Springs Church, formerly Mable White Baptist Church. He enjoyed golfing and cherished the countless hours spent on the golf course with his friends. After 50 years of golfing, he finally made a hole in one in 2022 in Forsyth.

Mack is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judy Cranford Stokes of Macon; son, Kevin “Sean” Stokes (Deidra C. Stewart-Stokes) of Macon; daughter, Kelly Stokes Griffith of Simpsonville, South Carolina; granddaughter, Chelsea Griffith Arrington (James Asbury Arrington); great grandchildren, Emerald Neely Arrington and Griffith James Arrington; brother, E.Y. Stokes; numerous nieces and nephews; and furbaby, Molly.

In addition to his parents, Mack was preceded in death by his sister, Emily Bray.
