James (Jim) W. Simmons, III of Macon, GA died in peace on October 27, 2014 at Macon Coliseum Hospital. Born November 25, 1941 in Atlanta, Georgia, and the son of the late James Walton Simmons Jr. & Rosemary Hawk Simmons. Jim was known for his ability to make others laugh and his loyalty to family and friends. As an Atlanta native, Jim attended Morris Brandon Elementary, GMA, Northside High School and graduated from Furman University. After graduating from Furman, he worked for Drugs Mutual, a wholesale drug firm, of which his grandfather, Judson L. Hawk, was President. Subsequently, he was President of Cox Foundry and Machine Company. In 1980, he was part of the first graduating class of the Goizeta Executive MBA program at Emory University. Finally, Jim founded Component Sales Group Incorporated, a manufacturing sales agency with his partner and son, David L. Simmons. Jim was a member of Kappa Alpha Order, on the Board of Directors of The R.A. Siegel Company for twenty-four years, and a devoted member of the Episcopal Church. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Harriette James, in 1965. They had a lifetime of happiness. Jim loved jokes; he was a veracious reader; he was a great cook and an even better eater. Jim had an irreverent sense of humor; he was generous, and he loved his family dearly. Jim is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Harriette Simmons, his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Walker Candler, his son, David Louis Simmons, his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Peter Kopp; his daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Jake Chesney; his daughter and son-in-law Mary Catherine and Blake Bruce. He has ten grandchildren who call him Pop-Pop; Walton, Madeline, Stewart, James, Mary Alice, Matthew, Rosemary, Peter, Mary Stewart and Bella. A visitation will be held at Harts at the Cupola on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, from 4:00-6:00PM, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, Ga 31210. A funeral service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 11:00 am, 582 Walnut St, Macon, Ga 31201.
