James Fowler "Jim" Lawton January 29, 1942 - February 13, 2015 Jim passed away peacefully on February, 13, 2015. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Hart's at the Cupola. A graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery in Soperton, GA on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 11:00 am. A memorial service will follow at Mulberry Methodist Church on Monday, February 16, 2015, at 3:00 pm. Jim was born in Dublin, Georgia to James Maner Lawton and Hayes Fowler Lawton. He grew up in Soperton, GA and attended Treutlen High School. Jim later attended the University of Georgia, earning a Business degree and attending Journalism School and Law School. Jim lived in Atlanta, GA where he worked for Ford Motor Company and Adair Realty. He moved to Macon where he worked for Murphy, Taylor and Ellis as a Real Estate Appraiser before opening his own business, Lawton Associates, Inc., which he operated for three decades. Jim was a member of the Appraisal Institute, and held the designations of MAI and SRA. He was a member of Mulberry Methodist Church, the Macon Civic Club and Idle Hour Country Club. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, was a master storyteller, a creator of fine southern cuisine, and an avid reader. He especially enjoyed spending time at his family farm in Soperton, GA and his family cottage on the May River in Bluffton, SC. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nan Lawton Jackson, and brother-in-law Edward Clark Jackson. Survivors include his children, J. Fowler Lawton, Lindsey Lawton Moxley (Keith), grandchildren Carter Harrison Moxley and Coleman Hayes Moxley, siblings Lash Lawton Woodcock (Tom) of Macon, Justine Lawton Gillis (Jimmy) of Soperton and Thomas Maner Lawton (Linda) of Decatur and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express appreciation to several special care givers, Carolyn Glenn, Patricia Streat and Natalice Calloway, as well as special caregivers during the past two years and the wonderful staff at Pine Pointe Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Mulberry Methodist Church, Pine Pointe Hospice or the Treutlen County Library, 585 2nd Street, Soperton, GA 30457.
