James Carroll "JC" Sheffield, Jr., son of the former Miss Elma Lee Payne and James Carroll Sheffield, Sr., was born on August 28, 1942 in rural Laurens County Georgia. Mr. Sheffield resided most of his life in Jones County. He was married to Miss Barbara "Coot" Williams, March 11, 1965. They raised a son, Joseph Sheffield. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 14, 2014, at 3PM, at Bridges of Hope Church with Pastor Loretta Faulk officiating. Burial will be at Middle GA Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014, from 5:00PM until 7:00PM, at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street. Mr. Sheffield was a Christian, and was a member of Bridges of Hope Church. He loved traditional gospel and country music. He enjoyed watching Hee-Haw, The Marty Stuart Show, and other country music programs on RFD-TV. Mr. Sheffield also enjoyed deep sea fishing and watching wildlife. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sheffield, son Joseph Sheffield and two grand-daughters, Peyton and Kimberly Sheffield. Mr. Sheffield is also survived by two sisters, Gladys Raley of Cochran, and Irene Mead of Macon, and a half-brother Dyrle Raley (Nettie Mae) of Cochran, and fifteen nieces and nephews: Connie Lassiter (Jody) of Cochran, Debra Coley (Edward) of Cochran, Ralph Raley of Cary, Bob Raley (Lynne) of Cochran, Randy Raley (Linda) of Cochran. Teresa Foster (Chuck) of Warner Robins, Greg Mead of Macon, Freddy Howell (Sharon) of Danville, Darrell Howell of Danville, Tracy Howell (Becky) of Danville, Derek Howell of Danville, Sandy Wasdin of Danville, Billy "Bud" Raley, Jr. (Tammy) of Dublin, Ken Raley of Cochran and Karen Raley of Cochran, step granddaughter, Katie Majors. Sister in law, Betty Holcomb (Edward), brother in law, Bobby Williams (Cindy), nephews, Robbie Holcomb (Theresa) and Terry Holcomb (Janice), Audrey Holcumb and Jack Holcumb. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Howell, a half-brother, Billy Raley, and a nephew, Doyle Mead. Mr. JC Sheffield went to work for Fred Green's Propane Company in 1955, at the age of 14. He drove a gas truck for several companies (Fred Green's Propane, Donny McKinney's Propane, Mid Georgia Gas, Ferrell Gas and others) over his 50 plus years of service to the rural gas customers of Central Georgia.
