James Owen Heenan, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the age of 66. Born on August 11, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, Jim lived a life defined by love, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to his family and career.
Jim attended the University of Memphis, where he was a proud member of the football team, forging lifelong friendships and memories. After his playing career, he served as a graduate assistant coach for the team, sharing his passion and knowledge of the game with the next generation of players. His passion for teamwork and excellence carried over into his professional life. He built a distinguished career in construction project management, overseeing the building of Plant Vogtle, major renovation projects at Robins Air Force Base and Fort Moore, as well as the University of Georgia Sanford Stadium expansion. His expertise and leadership left a lasting legacy in the communities he served.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving parents, James and Eileen Heenan. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 40 years, Jackie, and their two children, Patrick and Emily, who were the light of his life. As a husband and father, Jim’s love was steadfast and unconditional, creating a foundation of warmth and security for his family.
A man of great generosity and joy, Jim touched the lives of all who knew him. He was an accomplished amateur golfer and tennis player, relishing the camaraderie and challenge of the game. A devoted sports fan, he spent countless hours cheering on his favorite teams, sharing his enthusiasm with friends and family. Jim also had a particular fondness for Georgia peaches, eagerly anticipating the season each year with childlike delight.
Jim’s legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, beginning at 11am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor a life well-lived and share in the memories of a remarkable man who will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Jim's name to the American Diabetes Association, the American Kidney Fund, or your preferred charitable organization.
