James Edward Hartis, 89, a resident of PruittHealth-Peake for the past several years, died there on Wednesday evening, May 29, 2024.
He was born on May 06, 1935, in Macon, a son of Samuel Bernard and Lila Mae (Herring) Hartis. The youngest of five children, he grew up on Nelson Street attending Second Baptist, and later Mabel White Baptist Church. He was a resident at Gracewood State School and Hospital, in Augusta, in his youth. He especially enjoyed assisting in the horse stables, fishing, and the school dances during those times. James was proud of his career with The Middle Georgia Hospital, where he retired with over two decades of service in the Housekeeping Department.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his siblings: Frances Carter, S.B. “Buddy” Hartis, Jr., Lucille Giles, and Katherine Rogers.
James is survived by several nieces and nephews.
His urn will be laid to rest in the Hartis family plot at Evergreen Cemetery, on Saturday, June 08, 2024, at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Association of People with Disabilities. Hart's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
