James Lewis Fletcher, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, at the age of 84.
James was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on September 28, 1941, to Lewis and Gladys Fletcher. In high school, he was named a National Merit Scholar, and upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves and attended West Virginia University. After a short time at WVU, his mother became ill, and he returned home to continue his studies at West Liberty College. It was in his sociology class at West Liberty where he met the love of his life, Catherine, whom he was married to for 61 years. Always a man of faith, James found his place in the Catholic Church later in life and enjoyed attending mass with his wife every Sunday.
His professional career centered on logistics and improving operational efficiencies in plant operations. He founded his own consulting firm, ZIP (Zero In Process), before joining Fortune 500 company Avery Dennison, where he led a unit focused on increasing inventory turns and enhancing efficiency in manufacturing plants around the globe. Following significant success in this role, he advanced to Vice President of Customer Service and Logistics and became a Corporate Officer, reporting directly to the CEO. He retired in 1997 to St. Simons Island, where he enjoyed sailing, reading, golfing at Sea Island and tinkering with English cars.
Known for his kindness and his intellect, James was a devoted father and grandfather, affectionately known as “Papa” to his five grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s school and athletic events. Those left to cherish memories of Jim are his wife, Catherine Fletcher; children, Jackie Guy (Donny) and Matt Fletcher (Laura); grandchildren: Bond Almand, Jr., Fletcher Almand, Parker Fletcher, Penn Fletcher, and Virginia Fletcher; his brother, Don “Bud” Fletcher along with many nieces and nephews who held a very special place in his heart. James is preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Fletcher and father, Lewis Fletcher.
The family will hold a small private service to celebrate his life.
