James Leroy Davidson

Jul 10, 1938 — Aug 15, 2026

Eatonton, GA

James Leroy Davidson, 88, passed away peacefully at home on August 15, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Macon, Georgia, James was the son of the late Maude Lee Brown and Rufus L. Davidson of Eatonton, Georgia. Early in his life, he was married to Sandra H. Davidson, with whom he had two sons: Wesley Neil Davidson (who preceded him in death) and Dean Leon Davidson (Marcia Maxwell) of Jones County. Later in life, he married Clara Judd Mathews, and together they enjoyed life at Lake Sinclair. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Missy Mathews Cumbie (Michael Cumbie), Dottie Mathews McCallum (Brad McCallum), both of Lizella, Georgia; and Mitch Mathews (Christine Dattilo) of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Mr. Davidson grew up in Macon, Georgia and was a well-known member of the community. For many years, he owned and operated Davidson Tire Center Spring Street and Riverside Drive in Macon. He also proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard in Macon.

When he wasn't at his shop, Mr. Davidson could be found pursuing his many passions. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing on the coast, hunting, and spending quality time with his wife and family at Lake Sinclair, where he loved to cook for everyone. His passion for mechanics extended to professional racing, where he worked on NASCAR teams and was a dedicated fan of the sport. He cherished the time spent in the garages of dear friends like Tommy Bush, Shane Doles, and many others. Jimmy was always the first to help a friend or family member in need. He was an avid bowler and a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, teaching all of his many grandchildren how to ski and fish from the dock at the lake.

The family will greet friends at Hart's Mortuary, Jones County Chapel in Gray, Georgia, on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel with burial following at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wilkinson County, GA.
