James Cunningham, 69, of Macon, GA died Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Mr. Cunningham was a Vietnam Veteran, who served as a forward observer for an artillery battalion. A graduate of Georgia Southern University, he was a long-time baseball/football coach and teacher who was retired from Baldwin High School, and an active fun-loving grandfather. He was born in Harlan, Kentucky. He is the son of Christine Cunningham of Cumming, Georgia, and the late Fred Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham was predeceased by his brothers, Hollis Cunningham, Bill Cunningham, and Frank Cunningham; and his sister, Marie McHargue.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen Cunningham; sons, Ralph Cunningham (Connie) of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Paul Cunningham (Heather) of Macon, GA; along with his daughter, Valerie Cunningham Tubb (Raymond) of Macon, GA; brothers, Jack Cunningham (Fran) of Augusta, GA, Bob Cunningham (Kathy) of Harlem, GA, and Freddie Cunningham (Jackie) of Lake Butler, FL; sisters, Ann Rutledge (Buddy) of Birmingham, AL, Mae Babb (Don) of Monroe, GA, and Delores Thaxton (Rick) of Cumming, GA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carmen, Rob, Wil, and Nick.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 26, 2011 at 2:00PM at Harts Mortuary at the Cupola in Macon. The Reverend Bill Neely will officiate.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00-7:30PM at Harts Mortuary at the Cupola.
