James Alvin “Al” Watts, grill and chill BBQ master, Vietnam Veteran, Hole in One achiever, college football lover (Roll Tide!) and now our guardian angel, peacefully passed away in his sleep the morning of Friday, December 13th. He had terrible taste in music, but we loved him anyway. This tribute to him could summarize his accomplishments as a son, husband, father, sailor, grandpa, or just as a kind human being. He was the caring husband and best friend of Gail Watts for an amazing 60 years. Gail will continue in this life knowing that she felt what it was to love someone like Al and to be loved by him since high school. He will forever be the father to his daughters, Christi, Heather, and Nicole, and his sons, Jeff, Jonathan, and Craig. He is dearly treasured by all of those blessed enough to know him. His grandchildren, Josh, Hannah, Abigail, Peyton, Sara, and Juliana attribute their close relationship to the family ideals taught to them by their grandfather. Al’s love was deeper than most, and it wasn’t just shown through words. Those he loved felt his affection through a simple jolly smile and a belly laugh that said “I love you” better than any words could.
There was never a moment that Al walked this earth without the loving embrace of his family, and even when walking became difficult, he continued to feel that embrace when his family brought his Jack and Coke to his favorite chair for him. Now that he has passed, his children hope that they will feel the warmth of his presence on cold days, still doing his fatherly duties after life. To Al, life wasn't measured by the days on this earth we each have, or the amount of money in a bank account, his life was entirely consumed by the people he loved most of all, his family. So, whoever is reading this tribute, Al would ask you a philosophical question, he would encourage you to enjoy every second with every person in your life, and then he would say “cheers y’all!”
Hart’s at the Cupola, Hart's Mortuary and Cremation Center, 6324 Peake Rd, Macon, GA 31210 has charge of the arrangements.
