Jakie Murray Stelling, 93, of Macon, passed away peacefully Friday, November 4, 2022, at Opus Care of Georgia with her husband and daughter by her side. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 8, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hart’s Mortuary on Cherry Street. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Macon followed by an inurnment at Riverside Cemetery. The Very Reverend John Johnson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mount De Sales Academy Mike Garvin Scholarship Fund, 851 Orange St, Macon, GA 31201, or online at www.mountdesales.net.
Mrs. Stelling was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, leaving behind her husband of 65 years, Conrad Stelling of Macon; her daughter, Susan Catto (Ian) of Brooklet; grandson, John Catto of Garden City, Georgia; siblings, Richard Flournoy of Cartersville, Georgia, Barbara Davis (Billy) of Ludowici, Georgia, and Sandi Ahlbrand (Bruce) of Port Charlotte, Florida; sisters-in-law, Montyne Atkinson of Marietta, Georgia and Peggy Haywood of Rome, Georgia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers, Lashunda "Tina" Brown and Marcus Johnson.
Jakie was preceded in death by her father, William Artie "Jake" Murray; mother, Alma Driggers Flournoy; stepfather, John Flournoy; and brothers, Victor Flournoy, and Jimmy Flournoy.
Mrs. Stelling enjoyed reading, especially Agatha Christie’s books, doing crossword puzzles, and working through her family genealogy. She was a longtime member of St Joseph Catholic Church, where she served as a lector for many years. After graduating from the Macon Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her RN, and doing post-graduate work in Jersey City, New Jersey, Jakie returned to the Macon Hospital and taught nursing until the school closed in 1978. She continued as an instructor for interns until 1989 when she retired from the Medical Center of Central Georgia, now Atrium Health Navicent. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
