Macon- JESSE (Jake) T. King, Sr., age 93, passed away August 8, 2010 at Park West Hospital in Knoxville. A native of Macon, GA, Mr. King moved to Knoxville in December 2005. He was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a longtime member of Ingleside United Methodist Church in Macon, GA prior to moving to Knoxville. He was a military veteran, having earned the Purple Heart in World War II. Mr. King was retired from the U.S. Army and retired after a 37-year career with the Georgia National Guard. He was a member of the 8th Infantry Division in World War II and one of the last surviving members of the 121st Infantry Division, the "Gray Bonnet" division. He was a member of the Marshall A. Weir Lodge 448, a member of the Scottish Rite and a 32nd Degree Mason. He also was a Sunday school teacher of the James Brake Class at Ingleside Methodist for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Otis King and Luana Quinn King. He moved to Knoxville following the November 2005 death of his second wife, Margie Chapman King. He lost his wife of 46 years, Helen Chiles King, in January 1987. He is survived by his son, Tom, of Knoxville, and his wife Faye; two granddaughters, Laurel King Gomez-Leon of El Paso, TX, her husband Ruben, and Merritt Catherine King of Augusta, GA; a great grandson, Alex Gomez-Leon; stepson, Tom Chapman and his wife Ellen, and their son, Sam, of Portland, OR; three step granddaughters and two step-great grandchildren. He also is survived by a brother, Buddy, of California, and a sister, Gertrude, of Alabama. We give special thanks and praise for the Rev. Fran Vickers of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church for her devoted ministry and love. The family also would like to thank Wilma, Dot, Betty Buffington and the staff at Homewood Assisted Living at Deane Hill in Knoxville for their love and support. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Hart's Mortuary 765 Cherry Street Macon, GA followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joe McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Cerebral Palsy Center of Knoxville, 241 East Woodland Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917 or to Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 7225 Old Clinton Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37921. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
