Ann Jacqueline "Jackie" Hanna McNair joined the heavenly choir on August 12, 2017 when she passed away peacefully with her devoted daughter at her bedside at Pine Pointe Hospice. Jackie was born in Norfolk, Virginia on May 25, 1931 to Ann Pennington Hanna and Arthur Clifton Hanna. Not born to be a spectator, Jackie lived a life filled with music, theater and story telling. She graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk, spent her freshman/ sophomore years at William and Mary, Virginia Polytechnic Institute Division (now Old Dominion University) and then transferred to Duke University where she obtained a B.A. in Music Theory and Composition and joined Phi Mu sorority. She married Duke classmate Conrad, and as a newlywed during the Korean conflict was able to join him at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii where she was chapel organist and taught piano before returning to Macon to start a family. Jackie was Charter President for the Macon Junior Woman's Club in 1955, a House & Garden Club Charter member, and 2-term President of the Morning Music Club in 1969-1971. Many Maconites remember Jackie as "The Story Lady" at Mrs. Delacroix's kindergarten every Monday morning from 1961-1986. Jackie wrote 319 cultural and concert reviews for the Macon Telegraph from 1965-1992. She joined Ingleside Baptist Church in 1952 and sang in that choir for many years until she joined the Vineville United Methodist Church choir where she continued to sing until recently. Jackie was the Children's Choir Director at Vineville Methodist from 1962-1977, and she produced a prolific output of anthems for children's and youth choirs, resulting in more than 60 publications from 1963-2006. In 2002 YAC performed her youth musical "The Rock Scene". The Macon Symphony Orchestra performed 5 of her compositions from 1986-2003, including the signature Cherry Blossom Waltz used at the festival ball. Jackie was a member of the Macon Symphony Board of Directors from 1990-2000, often as chairman of the MSO annual concerto competition. Mrs. McNair was an adjunct Instructor of Music at Macon Junior College / Macon State from 1972-2012 where she taught music theory and piano. Jackie was involved in numerous theater activities with colleagues and fellow Macon thespians over the years, with her first role in the 7 Year Itch in 1956. She was on the Board of Directors at Macon Little Theater, and the Music Director of several shows at Theater Macon, stealing the show in 2008 as the brassy showbiz piano player in a musical version of The Full Monty. She was involved in the Macon Civic Club shows from 1961-2013 and was the Music Director from 1989-2003. Jackie travelled with her husband to many corners of the earth, but her favorite place in the world was sitting at a piano. Mrs. McNair was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Conrad Buchanan McNair, Sr., sons Conrad B. "Bucky" McNair, Jr., and William "Bill" Hanna McNair. She is survived by her sister Nancy Hanna (Perry) Stone of Williamsburg, VA, daughter Andrea McNair Arnott (Noel) of Christchurch, England, daughter-in-law Jamie McNair of Macon, granddaughter Ashley McNair of Athens and grandson Corey McNair of Macon.
