Jack Lamar Broome

Jack Lamar Broome, 94, died February 19, 2023, after a short illness in hospice care in Forsyth, Georgia.

Jack was born in Concord, North Carolina on December 28, 1928, where he resided for most of his life. He moved to Macon in 2014 to be near his daughter. Jack was educated in NC public schools and attended Wingate College, now Wingate University. He had a long professional career in the textile industry and retired as a Textile Sales Engineer for Gessner Industries/Winsor & Jerauld Manufacturing Company in Concord, NC. After retirement, he did some consulting work for the company and their clients.

Early in life, Jack was quite athletic having been offered a contract to sign with the Washington Senators Minors Team. Due to family obligations, he was unable to accept. Jack was also an avid hunter, golfer and para-plane flyer.

Jack was a lifelong Baptist with his most recent church membership at First Baptist Church of Concord, North Carolina where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star in Concord.

He was predeceased by his parents, William Frank Broome Sr. and Lexie Owens Broome both of Concord, N.C; his wife Betty Moose Broome in Macon, GA; his brothers Badge, Reese, Horace and Donald Broome. Surviving are his loving son, Kevin Lamar Broome (Kelly), of Kannapolis, NC, and his daughter, Tanya Broome Edge (Wesley), of Macon. Additionally, he is survived by daughter-in-law, Colleen Broome and 4 grandchildren: Sarah Broome Whitlow (David), Phillip James Broome (Brittney), both of Concord, NC, Anneliese Edge Reagan (Wesley) and James Wesley Lowery Edge both of Macon, five great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge his co-workers at Gessner Industries/Winsor & Jerauld,  his dear friends Pastor James Smith and Tom Caudle, Jr., and also his long-time caregiver, Meme Clowers.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2023, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, Macon with the Reverend Bryan Hinson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 753 College Street, Macon, GA 31201.
