J. Wilbur "Bill" Coggins, Jr., died Wednesday, August 15, 2012. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 17 at 11o'clock at Christ Church. The Reverend Harriette Simmons will officiate. Mr. Coggins was born November 30, 1934, the son of Eleanor May and J. Wilbur Coggins. A native of Macon, Bill attended Joseph Clisby School and Lanier High School for Boys. He went to Georgia Tech and graduated from the University of Georgia, where he received a degree in Forestry and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Bill served in the U.S. Navy for two years aboard the U.S.S. Iowa. He worked for Macon Prestressed Concrete Company and Elliott Machine Shop, Inc. up until his death. He attended Christ Church and enjoyed being a member of the Macon Civic Club, and later the Senior Civic Club. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He never met a stranger. He spent many happy hours fishing on the Ocmulgee River. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Sue Moss Coggins; a daughter, Chappell Traynham (Jay); a son, Bill Coggins (Mari) of Beaufort, S.C.; grandchildren, Eleanor and Thomas Traynham and John Flowers; a brother-in-law, William Moss (Elizabeth) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and four nieces and nephews.
