Iris Justine Chancellor Mccallum

It is with both profound sadness and spiritual celebration that we share the news of Iris Justine Chancellor McCallum's passing.

One of the strongest women to ever walk this great, green earth, Justine passed at the respectable age of 93, on January 10, 2024. She was surrounded by great love as she journeyed from this life into the Kingdom of Heaven where we know an even greater love awaits her.

Justine was married to her husband, William "Billy" Felton McCallum for 59 1/2 years. Billy served in the Navy. Upon his return from active duty he made it his new mission to marry the cute, spunky tomboy. When Justine set her mind to something, there wasn't much that could stop her - and she set her mind on Billy McCallum. In their lifetime together, they raised two boys, ran their beautiful farm "Journey's End" in Lizella, and left a proud legacy.

For 20 years, Justine dressed in her Bibb County Sheriff's Department uniform and served as the patrol woman at W.B. Redding Elementary School in Lizella…work of which she was also very proud. She loved the children she guarded - going so far as to getting hit by a van as she watched over them one morning. Justine dearly loved to recount that story.

Now, Justine joins those who have gone before her: her mother and father, Lois Dickson Bell and William Alton Chancellor; her husband, Billy McCallum; her precious son, Mitchell "Mickey" McCallum; sister, Ada P. McCallum; and many family and friends.

She leaves behind many more family and friends to carry on her legacy of strength, loyalty, and unconditional love: her eldest son, Mark Anthony McCallum (Denise); granddaughters, Alana Jo Meeks (Everett), Courtney McCallum King (Ernie), and Mindy McCallum Stafford (Mickey); a beautiful bunch of great-grands, Christopher, Landon, Gabriel, Erin, Presley, and Aidan; her cherished friends who were a daughter and son to her, Cindy and Reggie Reeves; and her dear friend, Gwen Washington.

This good and faithful servant will be laid to rest this Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 2:00PM, for graveside services at Lizella Baptist Church...her home church and a place she loved dearly. She doesn't need flowers for this journey, but she asked - if you are so inclined - that you instead make a donation to Lizella Baptist Church. Or, perhaps, to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Justine loved the mission of St. Jude's that, in her words, is, "Dedicated to kids with cancer. No one is charged anything! Not for food, place to stay, transportation. For Danny Thomas said family needs as much time as possible to spend with their kids. Amen!"
