Howell Phillip "Sonny" Bell, Iii

Howell Phillip "Sonny" Bell, III passed away on May 8, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Hart's Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia with the Reverend Joe McDaniel officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at Hart's Mortuary. Memorial donations may be made to Mercer University, 1501 Mercer University Drive, Macon, Georgia 31207 or Alps Road Presbyterian Church, 380 Alps Road, Athens, Georgia 30606.

Sonny was a 1957 graduate from Lanier High School where he played on the golf team. In 1962 he earned a degree in Economics from Mercer University. While at Mercer, he played on the golf team and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. His competitive spirit was formed at an early age in boxing, where he earned the title of Macon Golden Gloves Champion. He served as a President of the Macon Midget Football Association. He retired after forty years of service in the food brokerage business from G.B. Sawyer Company. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kahler H. Bell of Athens, Georgia; son, Howell Phillip Bell, IV (Pam) of Barnesville, Georgia; son, David Kevin Bell (Jessica), of Athens; son, Frederick Douglas Bell (Szilvia) of Athens; and 3 grandchildren, Thomas Braxton Bell of Athens, Aidan Sammons Bell of Athens, and Sherrod David Bell of Athens. Sonny was predeceased by his parents, H.P. Bell, Jr. and Marguerite M. Bell of Macon.
