Homer McCrary Scarborough, Jr. passed away on April 11, 2026, at Pine Pointe Hospice Facility. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Macon Memorial Park.
Born in 1941 to Vivian and Homer Scarborough, Sr., he is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Jones Dallmus Scarborough; three half-brothers, John; Walter; and Franklin; two step-daughters, Lisa Dallmus Richardson and Linda “Denise” Dallmus; three step-grandchildren, Steven and Matt Richardson and Ava Patino; and four step-great-grandchildren, Nolan; Charleigh; Harris; and Brooks Richardson. Homer was a lifetime member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church.
Homer was educated in the Macon public schools and received his JD degree from the University of Georgia Law School in 1966. He served in the Georgia House of Representatives for two consecutive terms from 1969-1973, and practiced law in Macon for over 50 years. He was a member of the Macon and Georgia Bar Association and admitted to practice before all Georgia and Federal Courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
Homer’s varied interests and vocations also took him far afield from his hometown. While in elementary school he studied tap dancing, which turned into a love for music and skill in playing drums and other musical instruments. He also became interested in performing magic tricks at family and civic club gatherings. Many years later, under the stage name of Harrison Smith, he returned to entertaining by designing and performing his own mentalism and hypnotism show for corporate audiences around the U.S. and other countries. As part of learning his craft, he made a deep study of the interpretation of tarot and the arts of numerology, astrology, and graphology. He was a member of the Psychic Entertainers Association and a life member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
Homer was a professional musician as well, putting himself through college by playing drums and some piano in local and touring bands. He played trombone in his own band, Homer Scarborough and His Orchestra, and played drums in various other bands, touring the eastern U.S. and Canada with Sweetie Jones and the Dixie Kats and touring across the U.S. with Jerry Lee Lewis. Homer was the original drummer with Sweetie Jones and the Dixie Kats, and he and the Dixie Kats played as the opening act on several tours with Jerry Lee Lewis. He was also a licensed HAM radio operator and life member of the American Radio Relay League, a photographer with membership in the Macon Camera Club, editor of Georgia News Online, and a licensed Marriage and Family Counselor with a membership in the International Association of Counselors and Therapists.
