Henry Lee Moate

June 12, 1922 — September 7, 2008

Macon-Henry Lee Moate, 86, died peacefully surrounded by his children on Sunday, September 7, 2008, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. Mr. Moate was born in Newton County, Georgia on June 12, 1922, the son of Wilson and Nora Moate. He was predeceased by two brothers and five sisters. Mr. Moate, and his late wife, Jean Cook Moate, who were married sixty five years, moved to Macon in 1942 where he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Mr. Moate served in World War II on Tinian Island as a Flight-Line Fire Fighter and received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with a Bronze Star. Mr. Moate retired from Warner Robins Air Force Base as Captain in the Fire Prevention Department in 1982. He worked until he was 80 years old at Phar-America delivering meds to nursing homes. Mr. Moate was a deacon at Bellevue Baptist Church for many years where he worked with the RA's and several other youth groups. He enjoyed being an active member of the Gideon's and a Member of Vineville Baptist Church. Mr. Moate was dearly loved by all his survivors; a son, Randy L. Moate of Greenville, SC, three daughters, Peggy J. Mullis and Carole Slocum Moorman, both of Macon and Ann Elder-Gear of Gray, GA. Additional survivors include eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several dear nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and family at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street in Macon on Monday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM. Flowers will be appreciated or the family asks that those who wish to make a memorial contribution do so to the American Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society. The funeral service will be held at Hart's Mortuary on Tuesday at 11:00AM. Friends may contact the family at the home of Peggy Mullis at 3325 Vista Circle in Macon. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory on Cherry Street has charge of arrangements.
