Helene Mae Bullington Heard

Helene Mae Bullington Heard, 91, died Friday, November 11, 2016 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at her beloved Vineville Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Kremer officiating. Burial will be private with family in Riverside Cemetery, immediately following the service. Family invites friends and loved ones to a celebratory visitation between 6:00-8:00PM on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ARC Macon, 4664 Sheraton Drive, Macon, Georgia 31210, or Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204. Mrs. Heard was preceded in death by her daughter, Katherine Helene Heard, and her husband of 59 years, Charles W. "Billy" Heard. She was born in Miami, Florida, the daughter of the late Roy Vernard Bullington and Carrie Belle Jones Bullington. She was a graduate of A.L. Miller High School and attended Mercer University. She and her husband were very active in the Association for Retarded Citizens of Macon, having started the first meeting and continuing to be active until their deaths. She helped to organize the establishment of the first Group Home in Macon and received the J.C. Penney Community Service Award, among many others. Mrs. Heard was as lifelong member of Vineville Baptist Church, Joy Sunday School Class, and the XYZ Retired Group, worked as a teacher in the Primary Department and Vacation Bible School for many years, and served on the Flower Committee. She was a charter member of the Town and Country Garden Club, the A.L. Miller class of ‘43 Retired Group, and loved her Bridge Club which has been in existence for over 60 years. Her most important role was raising her four children of whom she was very proud. Survivors include her sons, Dr. Charles W. Heard, Jr. (Lee) of Orlando Florida; Dr. Lindsey V. Heard (Becky) of Macon, and Elizabeth Lane Heard of Macon. Helen had 8 grandchildren: Chase Heard (Helen) of Austin, Texas, Hillary Heard Baack (Alexander) of Altadena, California, Brooke Heard of Macon, Taylor Heard (Megan) of Alexandria, Virginia, Courtney Carroll of Macon, David Carroll (Kayli) of Macon, and Walker Carroll (Courtney) of Anniston, Alabama. She was blessed to have known all 8 of her great-grandchildren: Finley & Niko Baack, Ginny & Charlie Heard, Mackenzie Heard and Knox, Gabriel & Emily Carroll. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
