Ms. Helen Delores Kimber, 93, of Lizella, Georgia, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024. Family will greet friends for visitation on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, at Hart’s Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201.
Helen was born on September 21, 1930, in Eastman, Georgia, to the late Lark and Lilly Mae Sandiford. She moved to Macon as a teenager and later married Joshua Cherry, Jr., (Buddy) the love of her life. She worked at Strietman Biscuit Co., later known as Keebler Company, for many years where she was a line supervisor. After her first husband passed away, she met and married Bruce Kimber and together they enjoyed traveling the United States in their motor home. She was an avid reader and a wonderful cook but her greatest pleasure was being with her family. The family knew to never call her when “Jeopardy” was on. She was called “Nanny” to most who knew her, and she proudly and fearlessly took care of her family. Her life was her children and family, and she will be greatly missed.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Paula (Larry) Lindsley of Rockford, Michigan; her grandchildren, Tracy Lindsley of Muskegon, MI, Kelly Lindsley of Rockford, MI and Chris Adams (Donna) of Crawfordville, GA; her grandson, Phillip Maddox (Cassey) of Lizella, GA; 4 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; her son-in-law, Alan Maddox of Bainbridge, Georgia; her sister, Sylvia Elliott of Carrollton, GA and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Emilee McCurry, Horace Sandiford; her first husband, Joshua Cherry, Jr.; her second husband, Bruce Kimber; her daughter, Cherry Maddox; and her grandson, Joshua Cherry.
