Helen Piers Browning died Saturday, July 20, 2013 in Macon, Georgia. She was 94. Mrs. Browning was the retired franchise president of Manpower Temporary Services, Inc. and the owner-manager of Mutual Personnel Services, Inc. She was named Small Business Owner of the Year in 1983 by the Small Business Administration and Woman of Achievement in 1991 by Career Woman's Network. She was a former member of the National Association of Personnel Consultants, Washington, D. C.; the National Personnel Associates, Grand Rapids, Michigan; the Georgia Association of Personnel Services of Atlanta; and the Association of Manpower Franchise Owners, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mrs. Browning was a member of Career Women's Network and a founding member of the Greater Macon Women Business Owners. During her career, she won their High Achievement through Service Award, the University of Georgia-sponsored Small Business Owner of the Year award, and National Personnel Associates' silver and gold medals for quantity and quality placements of job seekers. She was a member of Manpower's High Fliers group. Mrs. Browning served on the Board of Directors of the Macon Arts Alliance, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Georgia, and the Heart of Georgia Council on Child Abuse. She was a founder of and a volunteer at Mother and Child Ministries. She wrote regularly for personnel industry magazines and was the author of two books. Mrs. Browning is survived by several nieces and nephews in the Southern Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky areas, and by many friends who are honored to have known her. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Macon with Father Allan J. McDonald celebrating and Deacon Tom Eden assisting. A rosary will be said at 10:15 a.m. prior to the Mass. Burial will be private. A celebration of Mrs. Browning's life will be held in the Grande Ballroom at Carlyle Place, 5300 Zebulon Road in Macon from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, where friends may greet the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Helen Piers Browning Scholarship Fund at Wesleyan College, 4760 Forsyth Road, Macon, Georgia 31210. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
