Harriett Hooks was born March 5th, 1949, and died March 10th, 2025. She was preceded in death by her mother Inez Hutchings, her father Edward R. Hutchings, her sister, Ann Serber and her grandson, Harrison Hooks. She is survived by her husband Robert Hooks Jr. Her daughter Helen Shoptaw (Jim), son Bill Hooks (Deren), and daughter Martha Ann Lord (Rob). Her 12 grandchildren, James Shoptaw, Robert Shoptaw, Samuel Shoptaw, William Shoptaw, Rachel Lord, Keegan Chilvers, Brayton Hooks, Thomas Chilvers, Adeline Hooks, RJ Lord, Barrett Chilvers, and Sonny Lord.
Harriett was a born teacher. She loved working with children and helping them to grow and achieve new things. Her first teaching job was at Windsor Academy in Macon. She also taught at the Corpus Christi, Texas Independent School and Locust Grove Elementary School in Locust Grove, Georgia. She retired from Locust Grove Elementary after 28 years in 2015. She graduated from The University of Georgia and was a member of the AD Pi Sorority. Harriett received her Masters in Education from Mercer later in her life. She also was a charter member of the Sewing Club in Macon.
Graveside service will be Friday, March 14th, at 11:00am, at the Riverside Cemetery in Macon.
Hart's Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201, has charge of the arrangements.
