H. B. "Papa" Churchwell

January 31, 1931 — August 20, 2015

H. B. "Papa" Churchwell passed away on August 20, 2015. Services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 3:00PM at Hart's Mortuary, Jones County Chapel, 307 Pecan Lane, Gray, Georgia 31032. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mr. Churchwell is predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years Faye Minton Churchwell; his parents Hill Churchwell and Lois Slaughter Churchwell, and son-in law Roger Pate. He was born in Cochran Georgia and served in the United States Army where he trained at Fort Gordon and served in Germany. He was a mining superintendent for the Cherokee Brick and Tile Company where he started at the age of seventeen and worked for forty-eight years until he retired in 1995. He loved to fish, hunt and farm. Mr. Churchwell leaves behind a firm family legacy of work ethic and family love, he was a loving Daddy and "Papa". He is survived by his son Johnny Lee Churchwell of Macon, Georgia, daughters Sandy Butler (Don) of Macon, Georgia, Glenda Pate of Augusta, Georgia, Vicki Coleman (Jeff) of Macon, Georgia and Anne Hood (Allen) of Gray, Georgia; grandchildren Johnny Churchwell (Janice), Jonathan Churchwell, Jennie Churchwell, Dewayne Fontenot (Michele), Chris Fontenot (Diana), Tiffany McCabe (Tyler), Ashlee Walker (Brandon), Kelli Carr, Kasey Carr (Jenny) and Josh Hood.; eighteen great grandchildren; brother James Churchwell of Macon, Georgia and sister Frances Avery of Gordon, Georgia. A special appreciation is given to his caregivers Mae Farley, Mary Wyatt, Tonya Hartley, Alicia Alexander and Heartland Hospice. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
